Osteoporosis is a condition that results in loss of bone density and deterioration of existing bone mass. Untreated , it can lead to increased risk of fractures as bones become more brittle. Fractures most often occur to bones that experience the most force such as, hips, spine and wrists. Osteoporosis has been called the silent disease since many people have the disease for years before they know it.
Who Is At Risk For Osteoporosis?
Men and women of all races can suffer from osteoporosis however, women who are experiencing menopause are particularly at risk. Hormone levels, certain medications and dietary factor can also contribute to the onset of this condition.
Exercises are a key component in the treatment of Osteoporosis. Once you have been diagnosed with with a bone depletion condition (by a Bone Density Study), a Physical Therapist at Pilates Fitness & Physical Therapy Center will evaluate and design an exercise program for you that will address any problem areas identified.
This exercise program will be reviewed and updated as you progress allowing you to continue regular participation in therapeutic activities through your personally designed Home Exercise Program or through the various programs offered at Pilates Fitness & Physical Therapy Center.
