Pre & Post Natal

Pre & Post Natal Therapy Utilizing Pilates and More! –Pilates Fitness & Physical Therapy Center offers Pre/Post Natal Physical Therapy utilizing Pilates, Manual Therapy and Massage/Craniosacral Therapy.

Pilates is also a great exercise regime for general conditioning throughout and after your pregnancy. We recommend Private or Partner Pilates sessions at this time.

canstockphoto4327384Pilates lateral breathing improves ribcage mobility and therefore helps to fill the lungs. It serves mothers-to-be well in the third trimester, when the range of motion of the diaphragm is limited because of the baby’s high position. Moreover, proper breathing encourages relaxation and an easier delivery.

Pilates focuses on Transversus Abdominus (deep abdominal) strengthening. This benefits pregnant women as strengthening this area helps to support the lumbar and pelvic area at a time when ligament laxity can place women at risk for low-back pain. During labor, the Pilates training and increased abdominal strength will assist women in a quicker, safer delivery and aide recovery.

Pilates allows pregnant women to exercise effectively without experiencing any undue stress on the lax joints, or an over-increase in blood pressure or heart rate.

Research has shown that activation of the Transversus Abdominus (the main focus in Pilates) also activates the pelvic floor muscles. This can help prevent incontinence and pelvic floor dysfunction.

Pilates incorporates stretching exercises, which enables the pregnant woman to maintain hip flexibility in preparation for delivery.

Pilates Fitness & Physical Therapy Center uses a  wide range of Pilates apparatuses to allow for exercise modifications during all phases of rehabilitation and pregnancy.

Pilates exercises have been modified especially for pregnancy. The exercises are safe and gentle so that pregnant women are able to design Pilates at any time through a normal full term pregnancy.
